Changing Roles of Libraries and Librarians with Emphasis on the Technology 

In the past, the emphasis on the libraries and librarians was to look after the resources. With the advent of the information society, there is a paradigm shift which demand libraries and librarians to adjust. This paper will show how today’s (Google) generation regardless of background have embraces technology in such a way that it even influences where they buy, study, entertain themselves, etc. While in the past the main role of the libraries and librarians has been to preserve information but today’s role is more to assist with access and information literacy. Web2.0 has presented librarians with tools that were only dreamt of in the past. The librarians are now no longer expected to sit in the library and wait for the users but they are now expected to compete with other professions and market their services to the users.  

The current library integrated systems and academic management system have revolutionise the way the library will interact with users a case study will made about library 2.0 system that use “rooms” to assist users with the information overload that current users find themselves. The essence of this rooms is they create a new opportunities for librarians to become curriculum librarians, who will now have to interact with curriculum designers and academics on a regular basis. The library 2 technology present the libraries and librarians with tools that surpasses bridge the divide even for an organization that cannot afford an expensive academic management system, the current crop of technology allows librarians, learners, students, academics and parents to interact in a meaningful way.
